Ceilidh* (evening 7pm-midnight)
at the Collie Italian Club
Food and beverages at club prices
The Collie Clan Gathering will be held at the Wallsend Grounds, which are bordered by Coombes Street, Bridge Street; and the Collie River, in town, between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 14/10/17.
The Ceilidh (pronounced 'kay-lee') will be held in the evening at the Italian Club (still on Saturday 14/10/17)
starting at 7pm and finishing at midnight. Attendance at the ceilidh will be limited to 200 - tickets for
the ceilidh will be available soon, until sold out.
A ceilidh is a Celtic social event with Scottish or Irish folk music, singing, traditional dancing, and storytelling. The Heel And Toe Scottish Dance Band will walk you through some of the traditional dances, and then you can have a go. Pipers, fiddlers, singers, and others will entertain you. If you are of good voice, or have a poem to recite, see the MC and you will be very welcome - traditionally it is a Celtic village family night and audience participation is part of the fun.
Since there is only a 2 hour gap between the Scottish festival at the Wallsend Grounds, and the ceilidh at the Italian Club, food and beverages will be available at very reasonable prices. So, freshen up by all means, but no need to eat before you come.
On the Sunday, 15/10/17, lunch will be available at the Harris River Estate winery, brewery, and cidery, just out of town. Coproprietor, Julie Hillier, is a Scottish-born Aussie. As well as continuing the Scottish festival atmosphere, she and her husband Karl have booked an Indigineous caterering firm, so you can choose between Scottish and Aboriginal dishes, and experience aspects of both cultures. This will be a pay-as-you-go function - no tickets, but numbers are limited, so early bookings are essential. There might be a small charge to cover the shuttle bus between town and Harris River Estate - a bus ticket, in other words.
